A Message from Liz, Founder

When I became a mom in 2008, my personal and professional lives collided. I struggled to find adequate guidance and support as I juggled raising my baby, healing my body, nurturing my family and figuring out what I wanted from my life as a mother. When I met other moms who faced similar challenges, I realized that our communities fail to provide sufficient parent education and support during the critical first years, Ground Zero of our children's education. Within months of my daughter's birth, I committed myself to figuring out how to leverage our communities to prepare and support new parents for their essential role as the foundation for their child's life.

Empowering parents through community blends the different experiences I have accumulated over the past sixteen years. I draw from my experience as a mother, from my skills as a former knowledge management consultant and from my perspective working in public education reform. Working with a successful parent curriculum as a base, I designed the Empowered Parenting series as one potential answer to help time-strapped, sleep-deprived, resource-constrained parents rediscover their parenting intuition and build a long-term community of support. I continue to explore different ways to provide parents and children with community, education and support. Please email me with your suggestions and/or if you'd like to get involved.

I envision that one day every community will be able to offer sustainable models of resources and support, providing all families with what they need to raise each child to his or her full potential.
